Ilam to host International Tea Festival in June

ILAM: An international tea festival is to be organized in Ilam which is known by the moniker ‘the tea capital’ of Nepal.

The event will be held from June 8 to 10 in Ilam Bazar.

Mayor of Ilam municipality Kedar Thapa said the international tea festival is being organised to publicize the quality of Nepali tea to the world.

He added that the event will have the participation of tea industrialists, tea farmers, entrepreneurs and international tea enthusiasts.

“We are organising the international tea festival under the Municipality’s leadership in a bid to address the complaints that the tea farmers and traders were compelled to sell their produce at lower price for lack of adequate publicity in spite of Nepal’s tea considered as being organic and of high quality,” Mayor Thapa said, adding that tea could be a major source of earning foreign currency if the export of Nepal-grown tea could be increased to foreign countries.

According to him, the festival is organized with the objective of marketing of tea and encouraging farmers towards tea cultivation.

Mayor Thapa expressed that the festival will help in marketing Nepali tea in the international market.
