BIMSTEC summit kicks off in Bangkok



BANGKOK: The sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has officially begun in Bangkok.

The summit opened with a group photo session of the heads of government from member countries, followed by discussions on the agenda at Hotel Sadgrila.

The leaders of the BIMSTEC delegations were welcomed by Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who is hosting the summit.

Today, the heads of government, including Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, are scheduled to address the gathering.

A key highlight of the summit will be the signing of the ‘BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Cooperation’ agreement. Following the signing, the prime ministers and leaders from member countries—Thailand, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka—will deliver speeches to the participants.
