Emir of Qatar to meet with PM Dahal, expected to ink eleven bilateral agreements

KATHMANDU: Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar is set to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday, marking the commencement of his two-day state visit to Nepal.

The Emir arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon, and the meeting between the two leaders is scheduled to take place at Hotel Solti at 10 am today.

It is anticipated that the meeting will culminate in the signing of eleven bilateral agreements covering various sectors.

Among these agreements, Nepal is preparing to finalize a new labor pact with Qatar, highlighting the significance of Qatar as a major destination for Nepali migrant workers.

Presently, approximately 370,000 Nepali laborers are employed in Qatar.

Later in the afternoon, Prime Minister Dahal will host a luncheon in honor of Emir Al Thani at Hotel Dwarika.

Emir Al Thani’s visit to Nepal, initiated at the cordial invitation of President Ram Chandra Paudel, underscores the strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

President Paudel warmly received the Emir at a specially arranged room at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival.

The visit commenced with a courtesy call on President Paudel on Tuesday, followed by a dinner in his honor graced by diverse cultural presentations.

Additionally, a bilateral meeting took place between President Paudel and the Qatari delegation, led by the Emir, at the Presidential Office in Sheetal Niwas.

The Emir’s visit signifies the deepening ties between Nepal and Qatar, with both nations poised to enhance cooperation across various domains.
