Manthali-Lukla direct flights commence

MANTHALI: As the trekking and mountaineering season begins, daily flights from Ramechhap’s Manthali Airport to Lukla have commenced.

Tara Air, Summit Air, and Sita Air have initiated regular flights to Solukhumbu’s Lukla starting today.

It is anticipated that the operation of flights between Manthali and Lukla will facilitate easier travel for tourists to the gateway of Mt. Everest.

During the tourist season, when Tribhuvan International Airport experiences high traffic, airlines transport tourists to Manthali and subsequently fly them to Lukla to avoid congestion.

Lukla attracts a significant number of foreign tourists twice a year for hiking and climbing.

In previous years, a large influx of tourists visited the Khumbu region from the first week of October to the first week of November.

Praveen Subedi, the Tara Air in-charge in Ramechhap, mentioned that this year, the number of tourists visiting from March to May is exceptionally high.

He noted that although flights were scheduled to commence last Friday, they were not operational due to adverse weather conditions.

Pooja Thapa, Acting Chief at the Office of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Ramechhap, stated that regular flights have now commenced with the improvement in weather conditions.

Additionally, arrangements have been made for the supply of aviation fuel in Manthali.
