KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued a stern warning, announcing strict measures against the use of plastic bouquets and flowers.
Since July 17 last year, the KMC has enforced a ban on the production, sale, distribution, storage, and usage of plastic bouquets and flowers, as well as plastic bags with a thickness below 40 microns.
The warning comes in response to numerous complaints indicating that party venues continue to clandestinely employ plastic bouquets and flowers despite the ban.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajunath Pandey of the Metropolitan Police Force stated that surprise inspections will be conducted at these venues, and any violations of the new regulation will be met with immediate action.
“It is our duty to uphold the legal framework established by the KMC for urban management, hygiene, and environmental improvement. We are closely monitoring the areas slated for inspection,” emphasized SSP Pandey.
SSP Pandey urged full cooperation from the public and cautioned that offenders will face consequences.
Meanwhile, the KMC has initiated the production of compost manure from biodegradable waste collected from households within the metropolis. Currently, segregated household waste is being collected from Ward No. 27, with plans to expand the program to all 32 wards, as confirmed by the KMC.
