KATHMANDU: The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has sought clarification from the internet service providers regarding the ongoing operation of TikTok, citing concerns over activities that incite social discord.

Despite the fact that the government imposed a ban on TikTok following activities that could potentially lead to social unrest, some service providers reopened access to the platform.

In response, the NTA has sought clarification from these providers, emphasizing the need for compliance with the directives issued by the government.

The NTA has also issued a warning, citing the Telecommunications Act of 2053 BS, and has initiated actions to implement the government’s decision.

The regulatory body had previously directed all internet and mobile service providers to suspend TikTok pending government decisions.

However, some internet service providers have continued to provide access to TikTok.

In a released statement, the NTA has urged the public to report instances of TikTok usage to [email protected].

Tiktok, on the other hand, has expressed commitment to take some initiations to address the government concerns.
