Test production begins at Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project

KATHMANDU: The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, located in Timure, northern Rasuwa, has successfully completed its test production phase.

The power house, built underground along the Bhotekoshi River in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-1 and 2, will eventually house three turbines, each with a capacity of 33 MW.

During the first test, 52 MW of electricity was generated, although water levels in the river were low due to cold weather, according to project chief Satyaram Jyakhwa.

The project is expected to operate at full capacity during the rainy season when all three units are in full operation. The total cost of the project is Rs 18.69 billion.

Construction began in 2014 but faced significant delays due to challenges such as the 2015 earthquake, fuel shortages, floods in the Bhotekoshi River, and transportation disruptions caused by highway blockades during the rainy season.
