Power from Sanjen Hydro Project connected to national grid

KATHMANDU: The power produced by the Sanjen Hydropower Project has been connected to the national grid.

The first unit of power from the project was connected to the national grid on Friday evening.

The project based in Amachodingmo-5, Rasuwa has a capacity of producing 42.5 megawatts of power.

The first unit of the electricity generated from Sanjen has been connected to the national transmission line after all technical tests were successfully completed, shared the project’s sub-engineer, Robin Koirala.

Five megawatts of electricity were generated from one unit on Friday. Preparations are underway to test the remaining two units of the project and connect them to the central system by Sunday, said the company’s CEO Arpan Bahadur Singh.

The company has stated that it is a model project among the semi-reservoir projects under construction in Nepal.

A ‘peaking pond’ has been constructed at the dam site of the Sanjen Upper Hydropower Project, which can store about 44,000 cubic meters of water.

By storing water from the pond additional electricity can be generated in the evening and the power house can be operated even in case of an emergency breakdown.
