PM Oli accuses opposition of stimulating unrest, vows to maintain social unity

KATHMANDU: In a strongly worded address marking his government’s first 100 days in office, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli claimed that opposition forces have been deliberately stoking tensions and attempting to destabilize the country since the new coalition government was formed in July.

Speaking from his office at Singha Durbar, Oli said that his administration would resist any efforts to sow discord and drive the country toward regression.

“The protest started the very day the Nepali Congress government was sworn in,” Oli said, referring to UML’s coalition government with the Nepali Congress. “There has been a deliberate attempt to incite communalism, close down industries, and paralyze the economy.”

The prime minister did not mince words, alleging that unnamed forces were seeking to divide the country along ethnic and communal lines, in a bid to fuel instability and push Nepal backward. However, he said that his government would remain resolute in its commitment to social cohesion and justice.

“Rumors have been circulating that the government is on the verge of collapse—now, tomorrow, or the next day. These rumors are being spread with the intention of hindering its ability to govern,” Oli said. “No one would have daydreamed that the government would collapse. It will reach its goals and complete its term.”

Oli’s remarks come amid growing unrest and political tension, with several opposition parties criticizing the government’s economic and social policies.
