Habeas corpus filed in SC against Durga Prasai’s arrest

KATHMANDU: A petition for a writ of habeas corpus has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the arrest of Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur with a controversial background.

On Monday, Prasai’s attorney filed the request through the appropriate channels.

Achyut Kuikel, SC Spokesperson, said that the writ has been received and is currently under review for registration.

Prasai was arrested at his residence on Sunday afternoon and was later admitted to Bir Hospital that night.

The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police subsequently took him from the hospital to begin his interrogation.

The Kathmandu District Court has authorized Prasai’s continued custody, extending his detention period by three days following the police request.

The arrest was initiated after a complaint was filed by Tika Sangraula (Jwala), a central member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), along with other victims.

The allegations against Prasai include character assassination, accusations of prostitution, and making objectionable statements about various individuals.
