BAJURA: This year, Bajura district will not face food shortages during the Dasain and Tihar festivals, thanks to adequate food stock at the Food Management and Trading Company Limited (FMTCL) depots in Martadi and Kolti.

Umesh Bhandari, Chief of the FMTCL branch office in Martadi, reported that the Martadi branch has 4,000 quintals of rice in stock, while the Kolti branch in Budhinanda Municipality has 2,300 quintals.

Bhandari noted that unlike previous years, residents will not have to purchase costly food grains during the festival.

“There used to be acute shortages of food grains in the district during the festivals due to road closures in the monsoon. This year, contractors have ensured timely delivery of food grains, aligning supply with demand. Therefore, the likelihood of food shortages is significantly reduced,” he explained.

At the Martadi branch, the 4,000 quintals of rice includes 2,106 quintals of Aruwa coarse rice, 1,685 quintals of Aruwa Sona moderate grain rice, and 225 quintals of Jira Masino fine-grain rice.

Meanwhile, the Kolti depot stocks 2,300 quintals, which includes 1,969 quintals of Aruwa coarse rice, 202 quintals of Sona Mansuli rice, and 151 quintals of Jira Masino fine-grain rice.

To further support the community, FMTCL has opened fair price shops in Martadi and Kolti, offering a five-rupee discount on every kilogram of rice sold.
