Tensions prompt early return of RSP leaders from China

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leaders, led by Vice Chairperson Dr. Swarnim Wagle, who reached China for a 10-day visit, are scheduled to return this morning.

Acting Spokesperson Ganesh Karki confirmed that the RSP team will be returning on the first flight available owing to the current political situation.

“The party did not issue specific instructions for their return; they are heading back because of the political climate here,” Karki stated.

The delegation, comprised of 14 members, was invited by the Chinese Communist Party and includes seven MPs and seven non-MPs.

In addition to Dr. Wagle, the team includes Shishir Khanal, Lima Adhikari, Manish Jha, Ganesh Parajuli, Dr. Toshima Karki, Asim Shah, Shiva Nepali, Basumaya Tamang, Nisha Mehta, Pukar Bam, Prakash Bista, Tapeshwar Yadav, and Khushbu Raja Shrestha.

In related news, a Parliamentary Inquiry Committee has recommended action against RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, along with GB Rai, Kumar Ramtel, and Chabilal Joshi, for the misappropriation of cooperative funds through Gorkha Media Pvt Ltd.

Chabilal Joshi was arrested on Sunday, coinciding with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s directive to Inspector General of Police Basanta Kunwar for action.

Joshi, a major shareholder in Gorkha Media, has been taken to Pokhara for further investigation.
