14 die as passenger bus plunges into Marsyangdi River in Tanahun

KATHMANDU: Fourteen people have been killed after a passenger bus plunged into the Marsyangdi River near Anbukhaireni in Tanahun on the Prithvi Highway.

The bus, with Indian number plate UP 53 FT 7623, was carrying 41 passengers, one driver, and one co-driver.

Sixteen passengers have been rescued from the accident site and transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

SP Mohan Kumar Thapa of the District Police Office Kaski said that all individuals on board were Indian nationals.

They had been staying at a hotel in Pokhara and departed for Kathmandu at 7:30 a.m. today (Friday).

The records show that the 41 people were staying at the Pokhara hotel and had arrived from Gorakhpur, India.

They had been in Pokhara and were en route to Kathmandu on Friday morning when the accident occurred.
