Mukul Dhakal accuses Deputy Speaker Rana of financial wrongdoing

Mukul Dhakal, former General Secretary of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has alleged that Deputy Speaker Indira Rana engaged in financial dealings aimed at sending Nepalis to America. Dhakal asserted his claim today via Facebook, stating, “I have evidence regarding the Deputy Speaker’s involvement in the matter of sending Nepalis to America.” He disclosed that a year ago, the party had received a complaint alleging that the Deputy Speaker’s office had accepted money under the guise of facilitating travel to America. As the General Secretary, Dhakal had also initiated an investigation into the matter within the party. However, following his expulsion from RSP, Dakal said the investigation was stalled.

Gold traded at Rs 146,300 per tola today

The price of gold in the domestic market remained stagnant today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold is fixed at Rs 146,300 per tola, while standard gold is trading at Rs 145,600 per tola. On Monday, the price of fine gold was Rs 146,200 per tola. Additionally, the price of silver stands at Rs 1,790 per tola today.

High water levels in Kathmandu Valley rivers prompt cautionary measures

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division has issued a warning following increased water levels in the rivers of Kathmandu Valley. Heavy overnight rains in Sundarijal, Kapan, Naikap, Babarmahal, and adjacent areas have led to a rise in river levels, according to the Division. Currently, the Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Dhobi Khola rivers are approaching alert levels, with the Khokana water measuring station on the Bagmati River reporting levels exceeding the alert threshold. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant until 9 am, as river levels continue to rise.

Government to provide compensation for families of missing persons in natural disasters

The government will offer compensation to the families of missing persons in natural disasters, treating them as deceased, according to Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. Responding to queries raised by lawmakers in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday, Home Minister Lekhak stated that the government will provide relief to the family members of those who have gone missing due to natural disasters since June 10 this year, treating them as deceased. According to Home Minister Lekhak, 1,592 natural disasters have been recorded since June 10. These incidents have resulted in 130 deaths and 144 injuries. Additionally, the whereabouts of 48 individuals are yet to be confirmed.

NEPSE ends Tuesday’s trading with 3.02 percent gain

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index saw a notable surge, closing impressively at 2,563.43, marking a substantial increase of 75.33 points or 3.02% on Tuesday compared to the previous day’s close, where it began at 2,493.92. Throughout the day, the index ranged from a low of 2,469.56 to a high of 2,563.45 before settling at its final value. Trading activity during the session included 317 scrips exchanged in 171,387 transactions, totaling a volume of 39,790,889 shares and a turnover of Rs. 14.11 billion. Market capitalization stood at Rs. 4.067 trillion, with a float market capitalization of Rs. 1.396 trillion.

Bahadur Singh Lama appointed Chief Minister of Bagmati Province

Bahadur Singh Lama, the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province. Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma appointed Lama on Tuesday. Lama secured his position with the backing of 64 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML. This appointment follows the resignation of Chief Minister Shalikram Jamakattel. After Jamakattel’s resignation, Province Chief Sharma had invited parties to submit their claims for the Chief Minister’s position by 2 PM on Tuesday.

NEA to restore power supply to six industries following PM Oli’s directive

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to restore power supply to six industries that had previously been disconnected due to disputes over dedicated feeder and trunk lines. In a board meeting held on Tuesday, the NEA resolved to reconnect power to Arghakhanchi Cement, Reliance Spinning Mills, Ghorahi Cement, Jagadamba Synthetic, Jagadamba Steel, and Hulas Steel. The power supply to these industries was cut last week due to outstanding dues. The decision follows a directive from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to restore power to these industries.

Committee formed to investigate Rs 5,000 bribery case involving Former Minister

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has established a committee to investigate allegations that former Minister and lawmaker Birendra Mahatto bribed a middleman Rs 5,000 to authenticate his son’s certificate. Mahatto previously disclosed in a House of Representatives meeting that he had paid a bribe to officials at a subordinate body of the Education Ministry to obtain equivalence for his son’s certificate. The Ministry has appointed a three-member committee, led by Spokesperson and Deputy Director General Basanta Prasad Koirala from the Center for Education and Human Resource Development.

113 People Killed in Floods and Landslides Since Monsoon Rains Began

Since the onset of monsoon rains on June 10, 133 people have lost their lives in disaster-related incidents, including floods and landslides. According to the Nepal Police headquarters, 145 people have been injured during this period, and seven are still missing, aside from those involved in the Simaltal incident. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dan Bahadur Karki reported the following fatalities: two in Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi Province, six in Madhes Province, 25 in Bagmati Province, 38 in Gandaki Province, 23 in Lumbini Province, seven in Karnali Province, and 10 in Sudurpaschim Province.
