Simaltal bus plunge: Search for missing buses and passengers enters 12th day



CHITWAN: The search for two missing buses and their passengers continues into its 12th day following a landslide on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section at Simaltal of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, which swept them into the Trishuli river.

Efforts are concentrated at the accident site at Simaltal and extend up to Kerabari via Ghumaune, where an article possibly from the wreckage of the missing buses has been spotted.

Nepali security personnel, alongside a technical team of 12 from India’s National Disaster Response Force, are leading the search.

Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav reported that this morning’s search resumed after radar indicated a suspected article.

He clarified that out of the 25 bodies recovered earlier, one of the seven unidentified bodies is unrelated to this incident.

The count of identified bodies now stands at 24, following the identification of a woman from Palpa who jumped into the river.

The Chitwan District Security Committee and the Indian technical team convened on Saturday, initiating the joint search since Sunday morning.

Utilizing sonar cameras, the team has combed the area from Simaltal to Kabhreghat, including Ghumaune and the Devghat area.

Among the identified deceased, 16 are males and two females, with 13 being Nepali citizens and five Indian citizens.
