KATHMANDU: A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrived at the Special Court on Sunday to file a corruption case against Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal.

The corruption case against Chief Secretary Aryal and others is currently under review by the court staff.

The case will be registered immediately after the review is completed.

The corruption charges are related to the procurement process for printing excise duty stickers, involving Chief Secretary Aryal and others.

This marks the first time a sitting Chief Secretary in Nepal faces a corruption lawsuit.

Aryal was appointed Chief Secretary by the government on June 15, 2023.

Once the corruption case is filed, he will be automatically suspended.

Aryal was due to retire from his five-year term as Secretary on June 17, 2023, but the government appointed him as Chief Secretary three days earlier.

Prior to this, he served as Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Chief Secretary Aryal is also under investigation for other corruption cases, with the CIAA preparing to file some of these cases immediately.
