Nationalize all land across the country: NA lawmaker Gautam

KATHMANDU: National Assembly (NA) member Bamdev Gautam has stated that all land across the country should be nationalized.

He made this statement while speaking at the National Assembly meeting on Sunday.

He argued that Nepal cannot achieve development until all land, not just agricultural land, is nationalized.

“Let’s nationalize all land. I have been saying this for a long time. Until all of Nepal’s land is nationalized, not just agricultural land, Nepal will not develop,” he said.

He pointed out that development has been possible in countries like the USA, China, and Russia because all land there is nationalized.

“In countries like the USA, all land is nationalized. There is no private ownership there. Not only in America, but across Europe, land has been nationalized. This policy is also implemented in Russia. In China, all land was nationalized in 1953. Land is the basis for producing goods that people need. It is the main means of production. If we divide it into small pieces, the country cannot prosper,” said Gautam.

He emphasized that since land is the basis for producing necessary goods for people, it should be leased for production, and all land should be nationalized to move forward.
