KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has reiterated his commitment to fostering consensus with the Nepali Congress.

Speaking to journalists at a meeting, he expressed readiness to form a parliamentary investigation committee to address cooperative fraud allegations.

However, he lamented that efforts toward consensus were undermined by external influences just as they were nearing fruition.

“I am dedicated to consensus-building,” affirmed Prime Minister Dahal. “Though I am unsure who initiated discord within the Nepali Congress, I remain steadfast in my pursuit of consensus.”

In light of recent events, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the importance of collaborative governance.

He addressed concerns surrounding the arrest of Kantipur Media Group Chairman Kailash Sirohiya, indicating a broader strategy aimed at preserving unity.

“We must resist any attempts to strain the relationship between the Nepali Congress and my government,” he urged.

Reflecting on his past statements in Parliament, where he cautioned the Nepali Congress about potential consequences of missteps, Prime Minister Dahal sought to reassure the public of his commitment to dialogue.

He acknowledged the gravity of recent developments while asserting his willingness to assume responsibility for decisions made under his leadership.

As discussions delve into the delicate balance between press freedom and accountability, Prime Minister Dahal underscored his unwavering support for journalistic independence.

“The ongoing citizenship investigation should not impede the freedom of the press,” he affirmed. “I will safeguard press freedom as long as I am in office.”

Amidst growing tensions, Prime Minister Dahal’s reaffirmation of his commitment to consensus and press freedom signals a proactive approach to addressing challenges and maintaining stability in Nepal’s political landscape.
