Qatar Emir’s visit: Govt urged to seek pact for Bhairahawa-Qatar direct flights

BHAIRAHAWA: Ahead of the Qatari Emir’s visit to Nepal, stakeholders are urging the government to initiate discussions for the operation of direct flights between Bhairahawa and Qatar from Gautam Buddha International Airport.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, is scheduled to arrive today for a two-day State Visit at the invitation of President Ramchandra Paudel.

Thakur Kumar Shrestha, President of the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has urged the government to prioritize discussions on establishing direct flights between Bhairahawa and Qatar during bilateral talks with the Emir.

“During the Emir’s visit, Nepal should seize the opportunity to propose the operation of Qatar Airways, the national flag carrier of Qatar, directly from Bhairahawa to Qatar. We urge the government to give this matter the highest priority,” stated Thakur Kumar.

Likewise, Chandra Prakash Shrestha, President of the Siddhartha Hotel Association, echoed Thakur Kumar’s sentiments and urged the Nepalese government to advocate for direct flights between Bhairahawa and Qatar during the Qatari Emir’s visit.

Shrestha believes that the introduction of flights between Bhairahawa and Qatar would instill optimism among the private sector and stimulate economic activities in and around Bhairahawa, ultimately benefiting the national economy.
