88 cases of HR violations reported in Siraha in 2024

SIRAHA: The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has reported 88 cases of human rights violations in Siraha district for the year 2024.

During the review of the Human Rights Yearly Book-2025, held on Saturday, INSEC highlighted that 87 of these cases were committed by non-state actors, while one case was attributed to state forces.

According to Durga Pariyar, the district representative of INSEC, these violations include incidents of rape, murder, polygamy, domestic violence, and more.

Pariyar further stated that 13 young girls were victims of rape, while 6 girls suffered sexual harassment over the past year.

Additionally, there were 7 reported cases of attempted rape. The report also revealed that five males and five females were murdered by their own family members.

Seven cases of polygamy were recorded during the same period. Other human rights violations documented include domestic violence, forced expulsions, blockades, abetment of suicide, and clashes.

It was noted that victims in these cases often lack trust in the local judicial committees at the grassroots level.

During the program, Police Inspector Shiba Kattel of the Area Police Office in Lahan stated that limited manpower has hindered their ability to effectively address crimes, including drug smuggling.

Madhesh Province Assembly member Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary also spoke at the event, emphasizing the need for more effective implementation of laws to combat violence.

He urged citizens to raise their voices in support of justice and the protection of human rights.
