Calls for stern action against threats to Tribhuvan University office-bearers

KATHMANDU: Strong demands have been made for decisive action against those threatening physical attacks on the office-bearers of Tribhuvan University (TU).

During the zero hour of today’s National Assembly meeting, NA member Nara Bahadur Bista expressed concern over the threats, which he said cast doubt on the country’s security system.

“A group led by Yogendra Rawal, which previously attacked a TU professor two years ago, has now issued threats against TU office-bearers. This is a serious issue, especially in an academic setting like a university. Immediate and stern action must be taken against those responsible,” Bista emphasized.

In addition, Uday Bahadur Bohara called on the government to promptly repair and maintain the Rapti Highway, which has been damaged by recent floods and landslides, to resume transport services.

Narayan Dutta Mishra urged the government to address the plight of over 500 families affected by flooding in Kailali due to heavy rainfall over the past three days.

Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) highlighted the need for measures to reduce natural disasters, attributing the increase in such incidents to excessive exploitation of nature.

Kamala Panta requested the government to investigate the rising cases of dengue and cholera, while Rajendra Laxmi Gaire advocated for a special plan to combat violence against women (VAW).

Urmila Aryal called for a strategy to reduce road accidents, noting the recent death of Chandra Singh Karki, vice-chairperson of Sarkegad rural municipality in Humla district, in a road accident while traveling to Nepalgunj from Surkhet.

NA members Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Krishna Prasad Poudel, and Mohammad Khalid also raised concerns about various contemporary issues.
