KAILALI: Heavy rains have severely impacted Kailali, causing widespread flooding.

Many areas, including Bhajani, Joshipur, Janaki, Ghodaghodi, and Gouriganga, have been submerged.

According to Shivraj Joshi, Information Officer at the District Administration Office, over 500 houses have been inundated, and more than 1,700 residents have been affected.

Joshi reported that more than 400 houses in Bhajani have been flooded, and areas in Hasuliya and Gauriganga have been affected by the rising waters.

Some residents have sought refuge at the local ward office.

Meanwhile, 42-year-old Lokmaya Chaudhary was swept away while trying to leave her home in Kailali’s Ward 5, Bayanpur.

She was rescued and is receiving treatment at Nisarga Hospital in Dhangadhi.

The flow of water in the region’s small rivers continues to increase, and rainfall is persistent.

The District Administration Office has issued warnings to residents in high-risk areas to move to safer locations as the risk of flooding may escalate.

Rescue operations are ongoing with the support of local municipalities, police, armed police, and community members.

The Weather Forecasting Division has also advised caution to those living in riverine and flood-prone areas, warning of potential flooding in low-lying regions.
