Misappropriation of Cooperative Funds: Parliamentary Inquiry Committee to question Rabi Lamichhane tomorrow

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee, which is investigating the misappropriation of cooperative funds, will question Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), on August 23.

Lamichhane is under investigation for alleged embezzlement involving funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, and Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan, with claims that these funds were diverted through Gorkha Media.

The Committee is also collecting statements from directors and shareholders of nearly 100 problematic cooperatives nationwide, including those mentioned.

Surya Thapa, Chairman of the Committee, noted that the statement-gathering process is nearing completion, with efforts now focused on drafting the final report.

A Committee member confirmed that both Lamichhane and Chabilal Joshi Banjade, who is also linked to the Gorkha Media case, will provide their statements on August 23.

“We are scheduled to hear from Rabi Lamichhane and Chabilal Joshi Banjade,” said a Committee member. Banjade, a business partner of GB, the owner of Galaxy Television, has been associated with Rai since the channel’s inception.

The Committee has indicated that evidence points to Lamichhane and others being involved in the embezzlement of funds by transferring money from various cooperatives.
