24 disaster incidents reported nationwide, fires dominate

KATHMANDU: A total of 24 disaster-related incidents were reported across the country in the past 24 hours, with fire incidents accounting for the majority, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

Life has also been affected in Himalayan and high-hill districts due to snowfall. The Authority said 16 fire incidents were recorded nationwide, reflecting a seasonal rise in fire-related disasters during winter. These incidents resulted from causes such as negligence while lighting fires, straw huts catching fire, and wind-related spread, leading to loss of life and property.

According to the NDRRMA, the disasters caused an estimated loss of Rs 2.53 million and left seven people injured. Fire incidents were reported in Morang (two cases) and one each in Sunsari, Bhojpur, Saptari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Ramechhap, Makawanpur, Kathmandu, Palpa, Pyuthan, and Kailali.

Meanwhile, snowfall disrupted daily life in Baglung, Rukum East, Humla, Bajhang, and Baitadi districts. The Authority also reported incidents of animal attacks in Saptari, Kapilvastu, and Doti.

Urging the public to remain cautious, the NDRRMA has called on citizens to take preventive measures to minimize disaster risks, particularly during the winter season.
