Lawmakers urge government action amid transportation disruptions

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in the House of Representatives (HoR) today emphasized the urgent need for government intervention amidst widespread road transport disruptions across the country.

During the ‘Zero Hour’ session, they highlighted that numerous roads have been rendered impassable due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant rains.

The lawmakers urged the government to swiftly restore these vital transport routes to ensure the smooth supply of essential goods and mitigate risks to affected settlements in hilly regions.

They underscored the severity of the situation, noting that disruptions have led to shortages of daily essentials in some areas and significant damage to rice plantations.

Lawmakers including Man Bahadur Gurung, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, Mahesh Basnet, Madhav Sapkota, and Rajendra Kumar KC voiced their concerns over the escalating crisis.

Moreover, legislators like Menaka Kumari Pokhrel called for decisive action against pervasive corruption, while Mukta Kumari Yadav advocated for inclusive governance involving women, Madhesis, and Dalits.

Others, such as Mina Tamang, Maina Karki, and Ram Hari Khatiwada, drew attention to various pressing issues affecting public life.

In a separate discussion during the ‘Urgent Time’ segment, lawmakers paid homage to the late Pushpa Lal Shrestha, acknowledging his significant contributions to Nepal’s political and social spheres.

Lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri praised Shrestha’s role in Nepal’s democracy movement.

Additionally, lawmaker Janardan Sharma highlighted the plight of earthquake-affected communities in districts like Jajarkot, while Roshan Karki expressed concerns about rising crime rates, particularly in the Tarai Madhes region, urging the government to enhance law enforcement and public safety measures.

The deliberations underscored the government’s critical responsibility in addressing these multifaceted challenges to restore normalcy and ensure the welfare of all citizens.
