KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has pledged the government’s commitment to impartial and independent investigations into allegations of corruption and illicit wealth accumulation.

During a direct question-and-answer session with MPs in today’s House of Representatives meeting, Prime Minister Oli addressed the issues faced by savers in the cooperative sector.

He assured that the government is dedicated to implementing the recommendations made by the task force previously formed to address these problems.

Prime Minister Oli highlighted the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation to implement agreements made with cooperative victims.

“A total of 59,587 claims have been received through an online platform from savers of all problematic cooperative institutions, and liabilities amounting to NPR 35.51 billion have been confirmed,” he stated.

He further mentioned that the processes for establishing a Cooperative Loan Recovery Tribunal, Credit Information Center, and Cooperative Savings and Credit Protection Fund are underway, with budgets already allocated for these initiatives.

He also noted that a revised draft of the cooperative policy has been prepared, and amendments to the Cooperative Act, 2017, are in the preparation stage.

On the topic of constitutional amendments, Prime Minister Oli expressed confidence that any changes would be pursued through national consensus among political parties, taking into account national needs and interests.
