‘Medicinal Herbs Fair’ kicks off in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine Hospital has organized a ‘Medicinal Herbs Fair’on Saturday to encourage the use of herbs as medicinal substances.

Hospital Chief Dr Poonam Nepal said that the Fair was organized at Nepal Academy to impart knowledge about medicinal herbs.

Valuable herbs grown in the Himalayas, mountains, and Tarai of the country would be displayed, and information regarding the identification and use of herbs, indigenous and endangered valuable herbs, and identification of local herbs for treatment, use, and production would also be imparted in the fair.

During the event, scientific sessions related to medicinal herbs and nutrition, climate change, environmental health and sustainable conservation of herbs would be conducted as well and discussions would be also held on different topics including commercial farming of medicinal herbs, their collection through the scientific method, efforts for sustainable conservation, possibilities and challenges.

Dr Nepal shared that around 5,600 different types of herbs are used to produce medicines in Nepal.
