Two nabbed for taking money promising to settle 60 kg gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two persons accused of taking money under the pretense of settling a 60 kg gold smuggling case.

A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested 63-year-old Krishna Prasad Sharma and 43-year-old Jhabindra Khatri.

Sharma and Khatri allegedly took Rs 850,000 claiming they could resolve the case involving 60 kg of gold on behalf of police officers.

Sharma, originally from Chhatredevi Rural Municipality-5 in Arghakhanchi and currently residing in Tarkeshwar, Kathmandu, and Khatri, from Tilottama Municipality-01 in Rupandehi, were arrested on Friday by the CIB team, which is continuing its investigation.

On July 18, 2023, police seized 60 kg of gold smuggled into Nepal illegally from Tribhuvan International Airport.
