KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has stated that the party will take to the streets alongside parliamentary protests against the government’s misuse of power.

Speaking to journalists after a joint meeting of the central working committee and parliamentary in Sanepa, he explained that the decision to protest was made after the government showed unwillingness to investigate the misuse of billions of rupees in cooperatives.

Dr. Mahat emphasized that NC demands the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to probe the misappropriation of cooperative funds.

“We have been raising this issue in parliament, but the government has presented itself against parliamentary decorum. The Speaker has failed to uphold the dignity of parliament, and the government is leaning towards autocracy, which has drawn our serious attention,” Mahat said.

He also condemned the arrest of Kantipur Chairman Kailash Sirohiya, calling it an act of retaliation.

“This step by the government is highly condemnable. It seems they aim to gradually control and intimidate the media,” Mahat added.
