SC orders to register the case file against Home Minister Lamichhane and Attorney General

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the registration of a writ petition filed against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and Attorney General Dr. Dinmani Pokharel. The order was issued on Wednesday by a single bench led by Judge Tek Prasad Dungana. Previously, the apex court administration had denied registering the writ petition filed by advocate Anupam Bhattarai on Tuesday.

Arrest of KMG Chairman Sirohiya not a press freedom violation: RSP

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has voiced its stance on the arrest of Kantipur Media Group (KMG) Chairman Kailash Sirohiya in the citizenship case. Dr. Mukul Dhakal, the General Secretary and spokesperson of RSP, issued a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that an arrest sanctioned by the court does not infringe upon press freedom.“The distinction must be made between a profit-driven private enterprise and a diligent journalist reporting news,” the statement said.

NEPSE continues its steady rise, climbs up by 15.54 points Wednesday

Regaining its bullish trend, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has risen by 15.54 points on Wednesday, the fourth trading day of the week. The Nepali stock market recorded a steady increase of 0.73 percent to reach 2131.49 points today. A total of 14,419,521 shares of 318 companies were traded, with a total turnover of Rs. 5,687,680,000 on Wednesday.

US Embassy refuses to grant visa to Sandeep Lamichhane

The US Embassy in Nepal has rejected cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s visa application.Sandeep confirmed this information through social media on Wednesday. He was planning to leave for the USA and the West Indies to participate in the T-20 World Cup. Other members of the Nepali team have already flown abroad for the matches.

Dhanusha District Court grants three-day-remand against KMG Chair Sirohiya

The District Court Dhanusha has granted police the permission to remand Kailash Sirohiya in custody for three days to conduct further investigation. According to Sudeep Dangal, Chief of the District Attorney’s Office in Dhanusha, the police sought the five-day remand after recording Sirohiya’s statement. Sirohiya was arrested at the Thapathali office of Kantipur Media Group on Tuesday. The arrest followed the Dhanusha District Court’s decision to grant permission for an arrest warrant in connection with a dual citizenship issue.

NC to launch street protests against cooperative fraud

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has decided to launch a series of street protests aimed at combating cooperative fraud. The Nepali Congress announced its intent to stage a street demonstration, asserting that Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane should not retain his position due to his alleged involvement in fraudulent activities. Furthermore, a member of the Congress Central Working Committee stated that plans are underway to unite victims of cooperative scams nationwide under the Nepali Congress banner.

CIAA files next case against Bikal Paudel for illicit wealth accumulation

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed another case against Bikal Paudel, the former executive director of the Security Printing Press. The CIAA has claimed a misappropriation of Rs 621.9 million against Paudel, accusing him of illegally amassing wealth. It was found that Paudel had deposited Rs 289.57 million in the United Overseas Bank in Singapore and the Bank of America in the United States.

Rato Machhindranath’s coconut-throwing ceremony

The coconut-throwing ceremony of the Rato Machhindranath Jatra took place on Wednesday. The chariot bearing Rato Machhindranath was pulled from Pulchowk of Lalitpur to Lagankhel, where the coconut was thrown from the zenith of the chariot.
