KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the registration of a writ petition filed against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and Attorney General Dr. Dinmani Pokharel.
The order was issued on Wednesday by a single bench led by Judge Tek Prasad Dungana.
Previously, the apex court administration had denied registering the writ petition filed by advocate Anupam Bhattarai on Tuesday.
However, following the recent court order, the petition will now be registered.
The petitioner has called for the annulment of a letter issued by the Attorney General to Home Minister Lamichhane, questioning its legality.
This letter was made public by Home Minister Lamichhane to assert that he is not under investigation or facing any cases related to a cooperative fraud case.
Advocate Bhattarai has also requested an order prohibiting the Office of the Attorney General from issuing such letters.
An investigation by the District Police Office of Rupandehi had concluded that a business loan of Rs 20 million was issued from Supreme Cooperatives to Home Minister Lamichhane.
According to the police report, the funds were used for Gorkha Media Network.
However, the District Attorney filed the case without including charges against Home Minister Lamichhane, effectively protecting him from prosecution.
