KATHMANDU: The Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the public prosecutor’s office have wrapped up the process of recording the statement of Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Former Speaker and Vice Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), regarding his alleged involvement in the gold smuggling case.
Mahara was apprehended earlier in Bhairahawa following the recommendation for legal actions against him by the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission.
Initially granted a four-day remand by the Kathmandu District Court to aid further investigation, Mahara’s medical condition prompted the CIB to arrange for his hospitalization, resulting in his admission to Norvic Hospital.
Since his arrest, Mahara has maintained his innocence, reiterating his lack of involvement in the gold smuggling case during his statement at the public prosecutor’s office.
With the conclusion of Mahara’s statement recording, authorities anticipate his release today, considering his ongoing medical requirements.
