LALITPUR: In the ongoing Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC), Province Presidents emphasized the necessity of concerted efforts to elevate the NC to the top position in the forthcoming elections.
Highlighting the recommendations put forth by the four discussion groups at the general council meeting held at the Sunrise Conference Centre in Godavari, Lalitpur, the Presidents expressed concerns regarding the NC’s inability to attract new voters while forming coalitions in the past.
During his presentation, NC Sudurpaschim Province President Bir Bahadur Balayar stressed the importance of the NC adopting a unified policy and goal document, considering its role as the nation’s primary party.
NC Koshi Province President Uddhav Thapa echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need to strengthen the party and secure its position as the leading political force in future elections.
He also addressed concerns regarding the party’s struggle to engage the younger generation and decisions regarding alliances with other parties.
Likewise, Karnali Province President Lalitjung Shahi underscored the significance of earnestly implementing the policies discussed during the Mahasamiti meeting.
He suggested cautious consideration before deciding on forming alliances, emphasizing strategic timing and the continuation of the current alliance.
President Shahi also proposed scrapping the automatic membership of central committee members in the Mahasamiti and highlighted the need for transparent ticket distribution.
President of Madhes Province Krishna Yadav shared concerns about the declining attraction of the young population towards the Nepali Congress and suggested holding NC general conventions every two years for better outcomes.
Similarly, Bagmati Province President Indra Baniya conveyed demands such as incentivizing farmers towards modern agriculture, addressing public issues, fostering government-party coordination, and ensuring free education and healthcare.
Gandaki Province President Shukra Raj Sharma elaborated on various issues including strengthening party structures, transparent ticket distribution, and campaigning for the party’s majority in upcoming elections.
Lumbini Province President Amar Singh Pun emphasized the leadership role of the three-tier government in realizing constitutional rights and raised the issue of facilitating voting for Non-Resident Nepalis in future elections.
