KATHMANDU: The future of the party split ordinance proposed by Prime Minister KP Oli has remained uncertain.
Confusion arose after ruling Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba withheld full consent for the ordinance.
Sources indicate that NC President Deuba is disinterested in issuing the ordinance for two key reasons.
First, he aims to avoid further provoking opposition parties.
Deuba has assessed that the ordinance could exacerbate tensions, especially following the arrest of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane.
Sources claimed that Deuba believes moving forward with the ordinance could complicate the political landscape.
Additionally, Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has publicly stated that introducing an ordinance to split political parties would not be prudent.
On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Oli and Deuba had a lengthy discussion about the proposed ordinance.
While Deuba initially seemed open to the idea, the aforementioned concerns led him to withhold his full consent, resulting in the cancellation of the regular cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday.
