KATHMANDU: Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, has accused Prime Minister KP Oli of confirming that his government is a protector of corruption by accepting land from an individual currently on trial.
Speaking at a program in Jumla today, Prachanda asserted that since the government’s formation, he has maintained that its purpose is to safeguard corrupt practices, a claim he says the Prime Minister has now validated.
“I stated at the time that this government was established to protect and promote corruption. It’s been three months since its formation, and the evidence is clear,” he remarked.
“Under my leadership, the government returned government’s land from an individual who was arrested for this action, and the case is still ongoing. By allowing land to be donated back to the same businessman, the Prime Minister has confirmed that this government protects the corrupt.”
Prachanda criticized the government’s failure to fulfill its responsibilities, indicating that a protest program will be initiated after the first 100 days of the government’s term.
“Despite the government’s shortcomings, we’ve refrained from launching protest programs during this ‘honeymoon period.’
He highlighted that during his previous leadership, he made significant strides against corruption, aiming for good governance, social justice, and economic prosperity.
He lamented that he was unceremoniously ousted by the first and second parties in parliament during a critical period when positive changes were taking place.
“When we were making important advancements, particularly in combating corruption and addressing issues like the fugitive accused linked to the fake Bhutanese refugee scandal, a government was hastily formed following significant turmoil,” Prachanda explained.
He emphasized that during his tenure, he bolstered hope among the people and elevated Nepal’s standing in the international arena.
He pointed to the historic agreements reached during visits to neighboring countries and the attention garnered at major events like the UN General Assembly, World Food Conference, and COP 28.
