Over 20 million for compensation to wildlife victims in Chitwan



CHITWAN: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has distributed over Rs 20 million to the families of the victims of human-wildlife conflict.

According to Information Officer at the CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the CNP provided compensation to the victims of various 813 human-wildlife conflicts in the last fiscal year, 2023/24.

The families of 10 people who lost their lives to attack of wild animals in the Park were provided Rs 10 million in compensation, while 24 people sustaining severe injuries were given over Rs 3.2 million, shared Information Officer Tiwari.

Similarly, 23 persons sustaining minor injuries were provided over Rs 2.4 million in damages, he added.

Altogether 47 people were wounded in the attacks of wild animals such as elephant, rhino, tigers, bear, wild boar and Gauri Gai during the last fiscal year.

Moreover, compensation amounting to Rs 2.4 million was given to those whose properties and crops were destroyed by the wild animals.

The CNP doled out the relief amount to those whose cattle sheds were wrecked by the wild beasts.
