KATHMANDU: Four active trade unions of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) have warned against reconnecting electricity lines to industries using dedicated and trunk lines without collecting outstanding dues.
In a letter to NEA’s Executive Director Kulman Ghising, the unions cautioned that failing to collect dues could plunge the authority into a severe financial crisis, threatening protests in response.
“We are confident that no actions will be taken that harm the NEA or the future of the entire country’s electricity development,” stated the letter, signed by the presidents of the Employee Welfare Council, Employee Union, National Employee Union, and Employee Association, assuring “We are prepared to face any challenges NEA may encounter in the process of collecting outstanding dues for dedicated feeder and trunk line electricity charges. If actions against NEA’s interests occur, we will be compelled to protest.”
Just a few days ago, Prime Minister KP Oli had issued a direct order to Ghising to reconnect electricity to industries whose lines had been cut.
This directive has left the NEA uncertain about how to proceed.
