RSP declines to support PM Oli’s trust motion, issues whip to vote against Oli

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided not to support Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s trust motion.

In a parliamentary party meeting held on Sunday morning, the RSP decided to issue a whip to its lawmakers to vote against PM Oli’s confidence vote.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday.

Newly appointed PM Oli aims not only to secure a vote of confidence but also to win the support of two-thirds of the HoR members, as the new alliance’s major agenda is to amend the constitution.

On July 14, President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(2) of the constitution.

Oli was appointed with the backing of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, led by Oli.

The Constitution of Nepal mandates that a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more political parties must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of their appointment.

Of the 275 members in the HoR, PM Oli must garner the support of 138 members to win his confidence vote.
