Nepal set to clash with Pakistan in Women’s Asia Cup today



KATHMANDU: Following a decisive victory against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nepal’s Women Cricket team will face Pakistan in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup match on Sunday.

The match is scheduled for 7:15 PM today at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.

In their first match of the tournament, Pakistan was defeated by India.

India will also be playing against the UAE today, with their match set to begin at 2:15 PM.

The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups.

Group A includes Nepal, UAE, India, and Pakistan, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Nepal’s First Match

In Nepal’s first game, key performances came from Samjhana Khadka in batting and captain Indu Barma in bowling.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Nepal successfully chased down UAE’s target of 116 runs, finishing at 118/4 in 16.1 overs.

Samjhana Khadka scored an impressive 72 runs off 45 balls, including 11 sixes, while captain Indu Barma took three wickets.

After defeating UAE by six wickets, Nepal is currently in second place in Group A.

India leads the group based on run rate, having also secured two points by defeating Pakistan by seven wickets in their first match, chasing a target of 109 runs in 14.1 overs.

Tournament Details

The tournament, which runs from July 19 to 28, saw Nepal qualify from the ACC Women’s Premier Cup held in Malaysia in February.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final on July 29.

Indu Barma is captaining the Nepal Women’s Asia Cup team, which includes former captain Rubina Chhetry, Sita Rana Magar, Bindu Rawal, Kabita Kunwar, Puja Mahato, Kabita Joshi, Samjhana Khadka, Kajol Shrestha, Sabanam Rai, Rajmati Airee, Mamata Chaudhary, Kritika Marasini, Roma Thapa, and Dolly Bhatta. Nepal will play their final group match against strong rivals India on July 24 in Dambulla.

Nepal’s Asia Cup History

This is the third time Nepal’s women’s cricket team is competing in the Asia Cup.

They previously participated in the 2012 Asia Cup in China and the 2016 tournament in Thailand.
