Speaker Ghimire holds meeting with Chief Whips ahead of parliament session

KATHMANDU: Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire is currently meeting with the chief whips of various political parties ahead of the House of Representatives (HoR) session.

Earlier, Speaker Ghimire also held a separate meeting with the chief whip and whip of the opposition party.

The purpose of these meetings is to build political consensus among the parties to end the parliamentary deadlock.

The Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, along with other opposition parties, have been obstructing parliamentary sessions, demanding a probe committee to investigate Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in the cooperative fraud case.

Last Saturday, top leaders agreed to form a parliamentary inquiry committee and established a four-member task force under the coordination of Law Minister Padam Giri to finalize its mandate.

However, the ruling party and the opposition have not yet reached an agreement on the committee’s mandate.

The meeting of HoR scheduled for 11 am this morning is yet to be started.
