Industry Minister pledges action to reduce losses at Udayapur and Hetauda Cement Industries



KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, has vowed to promptly address the financial challenges faced by the Udayapur and Hetauda cement industries.

During a meeting of the Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Welfare Committee of the House of Representatives, Minister Bhandari emphasized the need for a comprehensive study to identify measures to minimize the losses incurred by these industries.

He assured that the government is fully committed to ensuring the financial sustainability of both cement plants.

Minister Bhandari highlighted the importance of maintaining the quality and enhancing the marketing strategies of the products manufactured by these industries.

He reiterated the government’s determination to bolster domestic industries to create employment opportunities within the country, reducing reliance on foreign employment.

Emphasizing the government’s dedication to realizing the vision of a prosperous Nepal, Minister Bhandari underscored ongoing efforts to uplift key sectors for sustainable economic growth.

Committee member Lal Prasad Sanwa Limbu recommended the government to explore innovative approaches to enhance the profitability of the cement industries.

Lawmakers Rama Koirala Poudyal, Ranendra Barali, and Suryaman Tamang Dong urged for a thorough assessment of the current status of the cement plants and emphasized the need for constructive dialogue between the Ministry of Finance and the industries to optimize their operations.

A committee has been formed to analyze the current situation of the cement industries and propose viable solutions, including the possibility of merging the two entities, in alignment with the government’s economic agenda.
