KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire, alongside Chief Whips from various political parties, is leaving for Switzerland today to participate in a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The absence of Speaker Ghimire and Chief Whips has led to a postponement of the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting for 10 days.
Accompanying Speaker Ghimire are Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of Nepali Congress (NC); Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of CPN-UML; Hitraj Pandey, Chief Whip of CPN-Maoist Center; Santosh Pariyar, Chief Whip of Rastriya Swatantra Party; and Ganga Belbase, National Assembly member.
Moreover, Padma Prasad Pandey, the Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament; Ekram Giri, spokesperson; Pradeep Guragain, international bench official of the parliament; and Tej Prakash Bhattarai, personal secretary of Speaker Ghimire, will be part of the delegation.
Parliament’s spokesperson, Ekram Giri, has indicated that the team, including the Speaker, is expected to return from Switzerland on March 29.
Consequently, the Parliament meeting has been rescheduled to convene on March 31.
