KATHMANDU: Police apprehended students affiliated with the ruling Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Student’s Union during a protest calling for the repeal of the ban at Maitighar, Kathmandu, on Sunday.
Law enforcement detained the students shortly after the demonstration commenced at Maitighar.
Carrying placards advocating for the preservation of civil liberties and the lifting of the ban, the students expressed their discontent.
The NSU asserted that the protest aimed to safeguard freedom of expression and emphasized that the ban at Maitighar hindered citizens from openly advocating for their rights.
Daily demonstrations have been ongoing against the prohibition order in Maitighar. The administration justified the ban citing security concerns in the Maitighar area.
Prior to the issuance of the ban, various groups had been organizing sit-ins, hunger strikes, demonstrations, and other events at Maitighar.
