KARNALI: Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel of Karnali Province has announced that the provincial government is preparing to insure all households at risk across the region.
Speaking at a program titled ‘Review of Disaster Response and Resilient Infrastructures,’ coordinated by the Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) Nepal and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, CM Kandel revealed that the province government has allocated Rs 45 million for household insurance in the fiscal year 2081/82.
“In the current national discourse, all three tiers of government and stakeholders are united,” CM Kandel said.
He expressed hope that the event would lead to a declaration on disaster risk reduction and response that could be acted upon by the Karnali Province government.
CM Kandel also highlighted that the province government had provided Rs 200,000 each to households that lost family members in the Jajarkot earthquake last year.
For the current fiscal year, a total of Rs 17 million has been allocated to address disaster risks.
Ken Shimizu, the Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization, noted that his organization is committed to supporting Nepal in managing disaster risks. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in disaster response.
