Foreign Ministry urges Nepali students in Dhaka to contact Embassy for necessary assistance

The government has urged Nepali residing in Bangladesh to contact the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka for any necessary support in the wake of the latest developments there. In a press meeting on Friday, the Foreign Ministry provided the numbers +8801880691913 (Yojana Bamjan, Second Secretary), +8801745407958 (Riya Chhetri) at the Embassy for assistance of Nepali students, guardians, and their relatives. The Ministry has said the government was committed to ensuring the safety of the Nepali students in Bangladesh amidst the current unrest there. To date, Nepali students in Bangladesh are safe and the universities, colleges, and the Nepali Embassy are doing their best to enhance their security and convenience, it is said.

Nepali Army in development activities: Opens 1,411 kms roads so far

The Nepali Army has opened 1,411 kilometres long track so far in different parts of the country. Likewise, the NA installed 38 bailey bridges. Colonel and Assistant Director of Military Development Construction Directorate Dharmendra Kumar Jha said that the bailey bridges and tracks have been handed over to the Department of Roads. Currently, the Nepali Army is involved in three national pride projects and two national priority (P1) projects. Likewise, the Nepali Army is constructing four strategically important roads connecting the south and north corridors of the country.

UML issues whip to support PM Oli’s vote of confidence

The ruling party, CPN-UML, has issued a whip to its members to support its chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli’s vote of confidence. Prime Minister Oli is set to present a vote of confidence proposal in the House of Representatives on Sunday. Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula informed that a whip has been issued to all UML members of the House of Representatives to vote in favor of the proposal. To secure a vote of confidence from the 275-member House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli needs the support of at least 138 members.

New coalition formed with condition of excluding Maoist Center in upcoming elections: Ishwar Pokharel

Senior Vice Chairman of CPN-UML, Ishwar Pokharel, has revealed that the Nepali Congress- UML government was formed with the condition of not including the CPN- Maoist Center in the upcoming elections. Speaking at the seventh convention of the Expatriate Forum in Doha on Friday, Pokharel made this disclosure. He stated that the government collapsed due to Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s disruptive actions. “What can one expect from someone who claims to be left-wing but acts otherwise, which led to the fall of the left-wing government,” Pokharel said.

Simaltal Disaster: Indian rescue squad arrives in Nepal

A team of Indian rescuers has arrived in Nepal to assist in searching for those missing after the Simaltal bus accident. Over a week ago, two buses plunged into the Trishuli River from Simaltal along the Narayangadh-Muglin road after being swept away by a landslide. The search for the missing passengers continues with untiring efforts from the security agencies. Anil Pokhrel, Executive Chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, informed that a 12-member squad from the Indian National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived in Nepal to help locate the missing individuals since the Simaltal tragedy.

Monsoon Disaster: Rs 13.8 million released for compensation to victim families

The District Disaster Management Funds have released compensation amounts to provide Rs 200,000 each to the families of 69 people who lost their lives in the monsoon disaster. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of Rs 13.8 million has been allotted so far, with some districts already distributing the monetary relief to the victim families. More than 125 people have been killed in monsoon-related disasters so far. The highest number of casualties resulted from landslides, floods, and lightning strikes. Security bodies have rescued 125 people who were at high risk due to disasters following heavy rainfall across the country, the Authority added.

RPP declines to support PM Oli in confidence vote, chooses to be in opposition

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided not to support Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in his confidence vote. Sources indicate that the party sees no chances of its agendas being addressed by the new coalition, and the current coalition has yet to unveil its seven-point agreement. As a result, the RPP will not be giving a vote of confidence to PM Oli. Speaking with Khabarhub, RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden confirmed that the party will not support PM Oli and will not join the government anytime soon.

Ghimire nominated as chief whip of Nepali Congress parliamentary party

Shyam Kumar Ghimire has been appointed as the Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party. Party’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba nominated Ghimire to the post on Saturday. Ghimire’s appointment comes following the elevation of Ramesh Lekhak to the position of Home Minister.

PM Oli to take vote of confidence on Sunday

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to take a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday. The Constitution of Nepal mandates that a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more political parties must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of their appointment. The newly appointed PM is taking the trust vote as per Article 76(4) of the constitution. On July 14, President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(2) of the constitution. Oli was appointed with the backing of the Nepali Congress after the CPN (UML), led by Oli. The HoR meeting is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday.

Lumbini Province Chief Minister Mahara to seek vote of confidence on Sunday

Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Jokh Bahadur Mahara is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence on Sunday. According to the province secretariat, a meeting of the provincial assembly to discuss CM Mahara’s trust motion has been called for 1 PM on Sunday. The need for a vote of confidence arose after the CPN-UML withdrew its support for CM Mahara, following the formation of a new alliance between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML at the central level. The Constitution mandates that the Chief Minister must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days if any coalition member withdraws its support from the government.

UML directs lawmakers to vote against Bagmati Chief Minister Jamakattel

The Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Shalikram Jamakattel, is set to seek a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Sunday. In response to CM Jamakattel’s trust motion, the CPN-UML has issued a whip to its lawmakers, directing them to be present at the provincial assembly meeting on Sunday and to vote against the Chief Minister. Chief Minister Jamakattel recently submitted a letter to the State Assembly Secretariat requesting a vote of confidence. This move comes after five ministers from the CPN-UML resigned from the provincial government following recent changes in the federal government, leaving the government in a minority position.

Monsoon-induced casualties rise to 128 in Nepal

A total of 128 people have died due to natural disasters triggered by this year’s monsoon. According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, since the monsoon began on June 10, 128 people have died and 143 have been injured in floods and landslides across the country due to incessant rains over the past 42 days. Nepal Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, reported that two people have died in Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi, five in Madhes, 22 in Bagmati, 38 in Gandaki, 23 in Lumbini, seven in Karnali, and nine in Sudurpaschim Province due to floods and landslides.
