KATHMANDU: The ruling party, CPN-UML, has issued a whip to its members to support its chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli’s vote of confidence.

Prime Minister Oli is set to present a vote of confidence proposal in the House of Representatives on Sunday.

Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula informed that a whip has been issued to all UML members of the House of Representatives to vote in favor of the proposal.

To secure a vote of confidence from the 275-member House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli needs the support of at least 138 members.

As the largest party, the Nepali Congress (NC), initially supported Oli’s premiership. Therefore, the support of Congress’s 88 and UML’s 79 members would suffice for the vote of confidence.

Additionally, Oli is expected to gain support from the Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), the Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), and the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, all of which are part of the government.

The House of Representatives consists of 88 members from NC, 79 from UML, 32 from Maoist Center, 21 from Rastriya Swatantra Party, 14 from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 10 from CPN-Unified Socialist, 7 from JSP, 6 from Janamat Party, 5 from JSP Nepal, 4 from LSP, and 1 each from Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Rastriya Janamorcha, and Aam Janata Party, along with 2 independent members.
