ACC Women’s Asia Cup: Nepal to face Pakistan in second match on Sunday

KATHMANDU: After a victorious start in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Cricket, Nepal will face Pakistan in their second match on Sunday. The clash between Nepal and Pakistan will take place at Sri Lanka’s Dambulla Stadium, starting at 7:15 pm.

Pakistan is a formidable opponent for Nepal. While Nepal enters the match with enthusiasm from their first victory, Pakistan will be seeking their first win against Nepal.

Nepal’s first match

In Nepal’s first game, significant contributions came from Samjhana Khadka in batting and captain Indu Barma in bowling.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Nepal chased down UAE’s target of 116 runs, scoring 118/4 in 16.1 overs.

Samjhana Khadka scored 72 runs off 45 balls, hitting 11 sixes, and captain Indu Barma took three wickets.

After defeating UAE by six wickets in their first game, Nepal is in second place in Group A.

India, also with two points, leads the group based on run rate.

In their first match, India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets, chasing Pakistan’s target of 109 runs in 14.1 overs.

The tournament, running from July 19 to 28, saw Nepal qualify from the ACC Women’s Premier Cup held in Malaysia in February.

Eight teams are participating in the tournament, divided into two groups. Nepal is in Group A with Test nations India and Pakistan, as well as UAE.

On Saturday, Group B will see Malaysia vs. Thailand at 2:15 PM and Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh at 7:15 PM.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final on July 29.

Indu Barma is captaining the Nepal women’s Asia Cup team, which includes former captain Rubina Chhetry, Sita Rana Magar, Bindu Rawal, Kabita Kunwar, Puja Mahato, Kabita Joshi, Samjhana Khadka, Kajol Shrestha, Sabanam Rai, Rajmati Airee, Mamata Chaudhary, Kritika Marasini, Roma Thapa, and Dolly Bhatta.

Nepal will play their final group match against strong rivals India on July 24 in Dambulla.

Nepal competes in Asia Cup for third time

This is the third time Nepal’s women’s cricket team is competing in the Asia Cup.

They previously participated in the 2012 Asia Cup in China and the 2016 tournament in Thailand.
