Construction of levees along seven streams begins in Kailali



KAILALI: Construction of levees along seven streams in Kailali district has begun.

The embankments would be built along the Kataini Gauriganga, Shivaganga, Ghuraha, Kandra, Kanda and Thuligad streams.

The Sudurpaschim Province Assembly has allocated Rs 1.7 million for controlling river erosion, according to Hydro Resource and Irrigation Development Division Office.

The Kataini stream will have 280-metre-long embankment, while Gaurigganga will have 230-metre-long embankment, Shivaganga to have 165-metre-long levee. Similarly, Ghuraha stream will have 150-metre- long levee.

A contract of Rs 30 million has been made for the levees of total 825 metres.

Division Chief Amar Bahadur Pal informed that even the Kanda stream of Bardagoriga rural municipality will have the embankment. Construction works are underway after the contract of Rs 50 million.

Similar works are going on for Kathaiya, Magrahawa and Ambari rivulets.

A contract of Rs 40 million was made for construction of 756-metre-long levee along the Thuligad of Mohanyal rural municipality-4.
