NSP has not united with Maoist Center: Chairman Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP) Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has clarified that his party has not entered into any agreement for unity with the ruling CPN-Maoist Center.

Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Dr. Bhattarai refuted claims of unity with the Maoist Center, stating that some individuals within the party have spread misinformation about such unity merely because a few members have joined the Maoist Center.

While acknowledging that it’s common for individuals to switch parties during their political journey, Dr. Bhattarai expressed surprise at the notion that such actions constitute a merger with the Maoist Center.

Dr. Bhattarai stressed that while the party is open to cooperation and collaboration with the Maoist Center on people-centric agendas, there have been no discussions regarding a full merger with their party.

Furthermore, he asserted that the NSP currently holds a majority, with around 70% of its members.

In addition to clarifying the party’s stance on unity, Dr. Bhattarai announced plans to continue advocating for the establishment of a corruption-free system in the country.

He proposed the establishment of a directly elected executive President and Chief Ministers, along with the implementation of a fully proportional representation electoral system.
