Cyber crime charges for unauthorized sharing of Rabi Lamichhane’s photo

POKHARA: The Kaski District Police Office has announced cyber crime charges against those who shared an unauthorized photo of Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane, who has been in custody since October 18 on cooperative fraud charges.

The photo, which shows Lamichhane lying in the detention cell, has sparked criticism of the police.

Kaski police spokesperson DSP Basanta Kumar Sharma stated that legal action will be initiated against those who violated the confidentiality provisions under the Right to Information Act, 2007, and cyber crime laws.

Sharma added that individuals responsible for unauthorized publication and dissemination of such material will face legal consequences.

According to Sharma, the photo was first shared on a Facebook page under the name Dr. Nicholas Bhusal.

He emphasized that this act could negatively affect the ongoing investigation into cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering charges against Lamichhane.

“The Nepal Police remains committed to conducting evidence-based investigations while upholding the values of the criminal justice system as per the constitution and existing laws,” Sharma stated.
